Most Memorable Achievement

Everybody has some most memorable achievements in their lives.  Sometimes one of these stands out–not that it was the best achievement, but because of the circumstances.

This was the case when I sat for the Professional in Human Resources exam.  I remember, we drove up to the University of Southwest Florida campus in Tampa that day.  So we take the test, and then we have a long waiting period until we receive our results.

Well,  in a couple of weeks many of the members of my SHRM chapter were receiving their results.  And we even had a celebration dinner get-together, even though a couple of us had not received our results.  By no results, I assumed that I had not passed.  It was really embarrassing–here I was, a leader in an engineering firm at the time, and everybody knew that I had taken the exam.

Then one day, I was opening my mail, and there it was…the envelope from the Society of Human Resources Management.  As I nervously opened it, I was prepared for the failure; and to my surprise, here I had passed all along–just the results had gotten lost in the mail.  Now I was happy.  I remember that my Mom was with me that day, and she got to share in my surprise as well.  How wonderful.  And back at work, I could smile again, and the pressure had lifted.

Not many know this story, and I would imagine that it may spark a story of your own.  I would like to hear about your most memorable achievement, so please write a comment below.
